Why do you think it's nonsensical?
If you are helpless, then you are powerless, which means you can't be held responsible. And when it comes to global events, that's the state of most people. So why call them complicit?

I think most people argue for what they want to believe, rather than for what best describes reality. And I think that is very detrimental to us getting along.
