What do you think happens in the mind of an individual who changes from being a theist to an atheist, or vice versa?

Is it that they somehow came to a conclusion that certain evidence is more valuable than other evidence? What reasons might cause someone change their mind about what type of evidence is more valuable?

I think if you can answer that question, you'll be onto something even deeper than whether there's a god or not.

I think most people argue for what they want to believe, rather than for what best describes reality. And I think that is very detrimental to us getting along.
