The reason why "woke" has gotten backlash, and been turned into kind of a swear word in some circles is because, in spite of all the good things it may represent, it has often also been about scolding. And it's often been not just about scolding, but about scolding without understanding or listening to any critiques or questions - even those that are presented in earnest.
