This comment doesn't recognize or acknowledge the type of coercion Dustin talked about under the heading, "Pick your poison".

When entering into any relationship, each person always does so with the anticipation of certain needs being met - even if those needs are a simple as wanting love or companionship.

But whatever the needs are, they bring with them certain expectations, responsibilities, and rights - in short: some sort of social contract.

You might think it benign, but it is nevertheless a form of coercion. And it only really remains benign so long as all parties needs are being met - which is to say, all rights and responsibilities are being fulfilled. Which is also to say, justice is being upheld.

I think most people argue for what they want to believe, rather than for what best describes reality. And I think that is very detrimental to us getting along.
