The only ethic with any claim to legitimacy is the ethic of human happiness.

If an employee doesn't perform their job as needed, then the employer should have the right to dismiss them.

But anything beyond that, like attempting to make the employee feel "guilty", is a gross overstep, and a crime against humanity.
