"Reasons" and "explanations" are useful words, and mostly harmless (i.e. without implying vanity or a false sense of control) - as long as you understand what they really mean.

What those words don't imply, is a true, fundamental understanding of the thing.

But what they do imply, is a useful predictive model.

As long as you understand that what you refer to as your "reasons", "explanations", "facts", "knowledge", etc. don't represent "true understanding", but instead represent pragmatic, predictive observations, then they are fine words.

I think most people argue for what they want to believe, rather than for what best describes reality. And I think that is very detrimental to us getting along.
