No it didn't. Whether it's true or not, it's just a division of labor. Hunting, gathering, and caretaking are all important. None is strictly "more important" than any other. And whatever did happen back in the day doesn't necessarily need to have any impact on what we do today. Undoubtedly, some gender-based divisions of labor have existed historically, among both humans and animals (like chimpanzees, which are highly patriarchal, and bonobos, which are decidedly matriarchal), and those divisions were undoubtedly somewhat advantageous for survival. But again, the important thing to remember is that life is different now, and we don't ever need to be bound by what we were doing before.
