It's easy to change things at the beginnings of things, like after a revolution.

It's also easy to change things when you have a small group.

There are 335 million Americans today, and 8 billion people. It's take more time to turn a super tanker than it is to turn a canoe. That's all there really is to it.

That's not to say that we can't find new solutions to help us evolve faster. But it does explain why roughly the same institutions have been in place for so long.
