If humans are ever able to be truly reasonable in the future, they'll probably understand that the humans of today - like everything else in the universe - have had to do exactly two things: persist and propagate.
That is: We have had to survive, and we have had to reproduce.
And so our brains, rather than developing with perfectly consistent logic engines, developed with a complex mix of inputs that allowed us to believe and perceive whatever we needed to in a given moment. Which sometimes was logical, but other times - and often - is whatever allowed us to function in our emotional, social, physical environment.
So yes, compared to a truly consistent logic engine, humans are kind of insane. And I think the world is in a state now where we would probably benefit from more consistent logic engines.
Unfortunately, that's not where we are. But I think it's good to keep in mind that we really can't help ourselves - we are how we've needed to be for millennia (even if that's not how we need to be now, or in the future). And in order to make our global society more functional, we'll probably have to do some appealing to our more chaotic parts of our brain in order to achieve the desired effect.
