If by "centrists" your mean people like Sam Harris, then I don't think this is correct, because people like Same Harris were quite vocally opposed to Trump, and voted for Kamala.

Whereas people farther on the left were, I believe, more likely to abstain or vote third party in protest.

So it seems like, in this past election, that the "center" may have been a more reliable bulwark against fascism than the far left.

At the end of the day, voting is all that really counts.
