I was assuming that Trump would be in on it (in my hypothetical scenario), which changes a lot of the calculus there.

Either way, we shouldn't try to shame people just for missing some elements in their initial theory. We should reserve our shaming for people stubbornly keeping their theory even after their probabilities and logic are shown to be off.
