I don't think my conception of pride here is particularly idiosyncratic. I think I'm just reading between the lines, and vocalizing what people imply when they say they are proud.

When I say I don't take credit, I mean in an ultimate sense. I didn't choose the brain or body I was born with, and I can't help the things that give me happiness or sadness, and I can't control what ideas that pop into my head.

So although, yes, it is in a sense, "my philosophy", I can't really take credit for it. It just popped into my head due to my brain, and the things people have said to me, things I've read, etc.

And since I can't take credit for it, I can't really be proud of it - at least in the sense that I'm using the word pride.

What I can do, though, is draw confidence from my thoughts. Confidence is similar to pride, but it doesn't doesn't have the same connotations of taking credit.

Confidence is basically the optimism that you will be able to be successful in the future, based on the fact that you've been successful in the past.

Confidence is basically the socially responsible version of pride.

I think most people argue for what they want to believe, rather than for what best describes reality. And I think that is very detrimental to us getting along.
