I agree that we need a unified belief system. In particular, we need a unified way of establishing goals, and a unified way of adopting new beliefs.

But I think a major stumbling block to getting such a system is the arbitrariness of most proposed systems - especially the arbitrariness of any belief systems that rely on some proprietary source of truth - like a prophet or ancient text (i.e. like most mainstream religions).

I have a couple of articles where I tried to outline what I think a non-arbitrary belief system would look like. If you have time and inclination, I'd be curious what you'd have to say about them.
