I agree that nuance is important.

But I think the difference between saying something "will" happen, and saying that it has "a high likelihood" of happening, is largely semantic.

Everyone knows the future isn't certain, so when they say something "is going to happen", they in fact ARE merely saying that it "likely" will happen. And so the claim that they are thinking "deterministically" is probably more of a straw man than anything.

I think most people argue for what they want to believe, rather than for what best describes reality. And I think that is very detrimental to us getting along.
