"Boys don't want to give that power and its privilege up, so the struggle begins."
Except that the boys of today never had that power in the first place.
I think the problem is just that, as the author said, our modern culture stongly supports celebrating women and girls as such, but has no such equivalent support of men. The boys of today can't remember a time when they were celebrated just for being boys, and so, to them, the world doesn't seem like a loving place.
"And it's a man problem that they need to fix."
No. The responsibility of problem solving follows two paths: those who want the problem fixed, and those who have some power to fix the problem.
Everyone in society - both men and women, have a stake in solving this problem. And we all have some power to fix it - by showing love and respect to both our boys and girls, and spreading a message that all lives are valuable, but also that life isn't fair, and that nobody truly deserves happiness, but nobody deserves misery either.
That's the message we need in order to improve the situation.
