Actually, I have read the Bible. I was raised Christian, and took it quite seriously for a long time.

But the Bible (or any book or document purported to be the single source of truth) is not a democratic source of evidence, and therefore needs to be abandoned in favor of claims that are democratically discoverable and testable.
